AMU shut down indefinitely after clashes

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University was today shut down indefinitely after violence erupted in the campus on Friday night as students of two rival groups clashed with each other.

Reports said that one group belonging to Bihar and eastern UP and the other to western UP and some others parts opened fire and pelted stones at each other and ransacked university property. At least 12 students were injured in the clashes.

“After a clash between two groups, The AMU has been closed indefinitely” AMU spokesman Rahat Abrar told Agence India press. All the Exams have been postponed, he said.

In view of the incident Security has also been beefed up in and around the campus, a police office said here. No arrests have been made so far, he added.(AIP)
