New Delhi: Popular Front of India (PFI) has become a new petitioner in the Babri Masjid case as the group has filed a Special Leave Petition before Supreme Court of India challenging the verdict of Allahabad High Court which has divided the Babri Masjid land into three parts with two-thirds for Hindus and one-third for Muslims.

The Case stands listed as SLP (Civil) No 13596 of 2011on 2nd September 2011. The Case was filed on behalf of the organization by advocates N. L. Ganapathi and R. C. Gubrele and the senior advocate Rupinder Suri will appear at the time of hearing in the Supreme Court on behalf of the organisation.

PFI contended that the exclusive ownership right of the disputed 2.7 acres of land belongs to Muslims being represented by U. P. Sunni Wakf Board and sought a final judgement in favour of Muslims. The petitioner has appealed to the Supreme Court to nullify the Allahabad High Court verdict of 30th September 2010 which by relying on faith and rejecting evidence held that Rama was born in the site where the demolished Babri Masjid stood. The Popular Front of India has urged before Supreme Court 22 constitutional and legal questions to base its arguments and further 31 grounds of appeal to reconsider and set aside the lower court judgement.

It is to be noted that though the Supreme Court bench of Justices Aftab Alam and R M Lodha has later suspended the operation of Allahabad High Court order calling it ‘strange and surprising’, the final hearing and verdict of the apex court is still pending.
