In its report submitted to Rajya Sabha Friday, the panel headed by Congress leader Saifuddin Soz recommended amendments, along with forbidding any sale, gift, or mortgage of Wakf land. It also said that any kind of transfer should be done only with due approval from members.

“The committee was of view that sanction for any transfer of immovable property should not be given unless at least two thirds of the total membership of the board was present and at least two thirds of total present vote in favour of such transaction,” Soz said after the report was tabled.

Along with this, any Wakf property given on rent will have to be given on a rent at market rate.

The committee also substituted the word “an officer” for the post of chief executive officer of the Wakf board with “a Muslim officer”.
