Chhattisgarh house pays homage to Arjun Singh

Raipur : The Chhattisgarh state assembly adjourned for the day Monday after paying tributes to veteran Congress politician Arjun Singh, who died in New Delhi Friday.

Chief Minister Raman Singh, leader of opposition Ravindra Choubey, and former chief minister and Congress leader Ajit Jogi besides speaker Dharamlal Kaushik described Singh as a rare political personality of the country who contributed a lot to the development of society and the poor people.

Singh, who died at the age of 81, was thrice the chief minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh, before Chhattisgarh was formed in 2000. The 90-member house observed a two-minute silence as mark of respect to Singh after which the speaker adjourned the house till Tuesday 11 a.m.
