Palestinian’s national unity government likely in ten days: official

Gaza: A senior Palestinian official in Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party has said that the national unity government is to be formed in ten days, Xinhua reported.

Nabil Shaath, a member of Fatah’s Central Committee, told a news conference in Gaza following a meeting with leaders of Islamic Hamas movement that a technocrat Palestinian government is to be formed in ten days.

“The meeting was positive and we stressed on implementing the reconciliation agreement signed in Cairo May 4, and as the result of the agreement, the government will be formed,” Shaath told reporters.

Fatah and Hamas agreed to form a interim government, restructure the security forces and reform Palestine Liberation Organisation, according the reconciliation deal.

“Two weeks after forming the government, the Palestinian parliament will convene and several committees will be formed in order to carry out the agreement,” said Shaath, who arrived at Gaza Thursday. However, he declined to reveal the candidates in the upcoming new government.
