Hindutva activists arrested for attack on Muslim youths in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Since last three days after the Eid-ul-Azha, several incidents of fatal attacks on Muslim youths have been reported from different parts of Hyderabad. Several activists belonging to Hindutva organizations have been arrested in the case. At this stage of investigation in the case, the city police is not sure, if the attacks had any relation with the animal slaughter done by the minority community on the occassion of Eid-ul-Azha or Bakrid, as the Islamic festival is popularly known.

23 year old Omar Farooq was reportedly attacked by swords in the kacheguda area of Hyderabad. Same kind of incident occurred in the boienpally area, where four more Muslim youths Abdul Kareem, Azeem, Eidris, and Mouzam, were attacked by knife and lathis. All of them got injured severely and were immediately shifted to Osmania general hospital. Abdul Kareem is said to be in critical condition.



The eye witness told the police that the attackers were riding the bikes and immediately after the attack they fled from the scene. As a precaution, the city police intensified the patrolling and checking of vehicles on Wednesday night. City police doesn’t want to take any chances keeping in mind the present fragile communal situation in Hyderabad.

Victims had told the police that they didn’t have any kind of enmity with any one. The police are yet to find out if the attacks had any connection with the incidents pertaining to cow slaughtering reported in the several places in the city before bakrid.

Commissioner of police Mr. Abdul Khayoum Khan told journalists that till now 40 persons belonging to the right wing Hindu groups like, Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Hindu Vahini, had taken into custody.

Director general of police Mr. Dinesh Reddy had called a high level meeting with commissioner of police, and additional commissioner law and order Mr. Amit Garg, after the tip off given by state intelligence agency that the incidents were well planned and could harm the law and order situation in the city. After the meeting Mr. A.K.Khan said that police had formed special team along with task force officials to look into the case and nab the real culprits.
