More problems for E Ahmad over twin membership issue

By TCN Staff Correspondent,

New Delhi: Ismail Sahib’s grandson Davood Mian khan registered a complaint to the Election Commission (EC) against E Ahmed’s attempt to dissolute Muslim League Kerala State committee (MLKSC) with its mother organisation Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). E Ahmed did call up a national level meeting of the party on Nov 19th and 20th to enable the dissolution.

Already a complaint was registered against Ahmed by his opponent fraction (who claim to be the real IUML) for his twin memberships in parties independently registered under the EC. The second complaint to the EC has made the dissolution proceedings even complicated as Ahmed is the one who registered MLKSC. The EC has issued a deadline of November 30th for E Ahmed to provide his Explanation on the twin membership issue and for that he will now have to take an immediate decision regarding the dissolution.

Legal experts have suggested dissolution as the only solution to tackle the twin membership crisis. The advocate assisting league in such matters has gone for Hajj along with the league team and so a reply on the issue was expected to be out, only after his return.

Davood Mian Khan in his 29 page complaint to the EC has questioned Ahmed’s authority to call up on the IUML national level meeting. Besides he has quoted the EC’s reply on query based on RTI act which mentions that Ahmed represents MLKSC. He added that once Ahmed and Khader Moideen formed MLKSC and took up organisational responsibilities of the newly formed party, they are out of IUML. Since then they have no right to call up IUML’s organisational meetings as they are out of the party; so he demanded EC to prohibit them from conducting the meeting.

Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi assured him appropriate actions after closely examining the complaint. The EC sources said that though they can’t prohibit E Ahmed and Khader Moideen from holding the meeting, they could well disapprove with and reject the decisions taken; based on whether the meeting held was legal or not.
