New Delhi : The government has set up an advisory committee on world heritage matters to review the tentative list of heritage sites from India on the UNESCO list and make suitable recommendations, the Lok Sabha was informed Tuesday.
Culture and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selja said the committee would ensure that the list becomes more representative in the next five to seven years.
The list would consider and recommend heritage sites for nomination for inscription on the World Heritage List - taking into account both the universal outstanding value of the site and the quality of the nomination dossier, she said.
The committee would review the existing site management plans of the world heritage sites - including the proposed ones - and recommend ways to suitably implement the plans and draw up new ones, the minister said.
India has 28 world heritage sites.
