New Delhi: Delhi Wednesday witnessed power shortage as the National Thermal Power Corporation shut down three units in its Dadri plant due to delay in supply of coal, power distribution firm BSES said.
The delay in coal supply was caused by coal wagon derailment near Lucknow, a BSES statement said.
“Derailment of a coal wagon near Lucknow has created a coal shortage, which has forced NTPC to shut-down two units (of 210 MW each) at its NTPC Dadri I and one unit (of 490 MW) at its Dadri II generating stations,” the statement said.
“This has reduced availability of power for the Delhi discoms, forcing them to overdraw heavily from the Northern Grid. The power supply to Delhi has been affected since early hours of the morning,” it added.
“The shortage may result in rotational load shedding in the city,” said a BSES official.
