Money, political power behind Forbesganj killings: DU professor

New Delhi: “To understand the violence against Muslims in India, we need to understand political and social structure of the country. Actually, it is politicians who use money power and divide people on the line of caste and religion for their own benefits and Forbesganj police firing was an example of that ill mentality” said Prof. Kumar Sanjay Singh of Delhi University while speaking at a program titled ‘Forbesganj killing: Communal Casteist’ at Mahi-Mandavi hostel of JNU in New Delhi on 10th September 2011.

He further said that India got freedom in 1947 but yet to get rid of communalism and casteism.

Speaking on the occasion, Human rights activist, Mahtab Alam said that the Forbesganj police firing was a pre-planned killing. “”The Auro Sundaram blocked the road that connects people of Bhajanpur village of Forbesganj with block headquarter, Karbala, Eidgah and market. Four people were killed by police when they were protesting. But Nitish Government declined to take action against guilty officials on the contrary, four thousands villagers were booked” he said.

Mr. Mrityunjay of Students for Resistance pointed out that the incident like Forbesganj exposed the myth of good governance of Nitish Kumar. “The incident is a slap on our constitution which gives guarantee of life to every citizen. The incident proves as to how police is working as private force of corporate houses” he alleged.

Senior journalist, Dilip Mandal highlighted the point that how Nitish Kumar is controlling over media through money power. “The media did not give the proper place to Forbesganj incident because Nitish government is giving a huge amount to them in the name of advertisement” he alleged.

“The native of Bhajanpur village are still living under the shadow of fear as police is visiting the village regularly to haunt them” said Urdu journalist, Abid Anwar who hails from Forbesganj.

On the occasion, a short film on the situation at Bhajanpur after the incident was also screened. Besides, a booklet titled ‘Forbesganj Shaheedon ki aawaz: ek hi rasta’ was also released.
