Jodhpur : Criminal cases have been slapped against 16 students of Jai Narain Vyas University here after a first year engineering student went into depression following ragging, police said Monday.
The father of Shelendra Kumar Meena alleged that his son was ragged and “harassed physically and mentally” by his seniors.
The university authorities then lodged a first information report against 16 seniors.
According to police, the incident took place at the university’s MBM Engineering College in Jodhpur, some 285 km from here.
Shelendra Meena’s father alleged that his son was called to the seniors’ hostel twice during night and ragged for hours.
One night, they made him stay till 2 a.m. and even threatened him. When he protested, some of the seniors thrashed him, said a police officer.
The father said that his son was under depression.
