IM operative linked to Jama Masjid blast nabbed: Police

New Delhi : A suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist believed to be involved in the Jama Masjid blast was arrested in Bihar, police said Friday.

"The suspected terrorist is identified as Mohammed Tariq (35). He was arrested from Nalanda in Bihar," police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand said: "Tariq is co-founder of IM. He joined SIMI in 1998 and is an engineering student."

The suspected terrorist was arrested by special investigation team (SIT) of Delhi Police.

Tariq was allegedly involved in the blast at the Jama Masjid and a blast in Bangalore. He used to recruit fresh cadre for the terrorist organization.

Police sources claimed that over Rs.17 lakh was transferred to accounts of different IM operatives in India.

The accused has been sent to 15-days police custody by a magistrate court of Delhi.

Police said Tariq is needed for further interrogation to bust the module of the terrorist group.

In the Sep 19, 2010 Jama Masjid attack, two gunmen on a motorcycle fired at a tourist bus near a gate of the masjid, injuring two Taiwanese tourists.
