Jaunpur: This Uttar Pradesh district has a small village of poor Muslims. There are as many as 45 widows in Jogiana village of Kheta Sarai area of Jaunpur assembly constituency. The sad part is none of the widows are getting widow pension.
Till two years back, just 17 of 45 would be getting the pension every six months. This continued for two years. That two has stopped.
Hajra in 70s has not got pension for over two years. Bunnan Nesa also has not got pension for two years.
“We would get pension every six months. We got it just four times. First time I got Rs 2000, but half of the amount had to give to the agent. Next time I got Rs 1800 and Rs 500 was taken by the agent. Next two times I had to shell out Rs 300 and 200 respectively, and then the amount stopped coming,” says Bunnan Nesa.
There are many widows who have never got widow pension. Noor Jahan, Serajun Nesa and Shamsun Nesa have never got widow pension.
Jaan Mohammad, in 70s, has also not got old age pension. “They noted my name many times, but I have never got money,” says the elderly.
