Filmmaker Muzaffar Ali backs Congress

Lucknow: Accusing Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav as an opportunist, eminent film maker Muzaffar Ali urged the people to support Congress in the ongoing assembly elections.

“Mulayam lacks broader vision for state’s development. He is more interested in grabbing power by misleading people and playing caste card,” said Muzaffar Ali. The filmmaker of Umrao Jan fame threw his weight behind Congress stating that it is the need of hour to bail out the state from poverty. “Congress has a vision for development. Our state is backward and has seen several non Congress governments during past two decades which only deteriorated the condition. It is high time that we all supported Congress which brings in development for all sections,” he said.

Muzaffar Ali has unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections on SP ticket from Lucknow. Over his parting ways from Mulayam, he remarked: “I was attracted towards SP and Mulayam in post 1992 situation. At that time preserving the social fabric and maintaining communal harmony was the biggest challenge. We supported Mulayam but he failed to capitalise on it. It is now a closed chapter and we have to move ahead,” he said.

He also accused Mulayam and other parties for poor state of UP. “Migration of youths from the state is a big problem. No industry worth its name is left in the state. We are giving nothing to our future generation,” he said.

Over the misdeeds of Congress, Muzaffar Ali claimed that one should look forward. “Everybody commits mistake but they should be forgiven and a chance should be given to Congress for ruling the state. It is an opportune time with a youthful leadership at the helm of affairs in Congress,” he remarked.

Muzaffar Ali however maintained that Congress should not join hands with SP in case of a hung assembly. “There should be no alliance with SP or anyone. We have got time to rebuild the party and future is ours,” he said.
