Lucknow: With elections nearing Samajwadi Party’s (SP) yuvraj Akhilesh Yadav reached out to Muslims claiming reservation to the community in proportion of their population. Not only this, Akhilesh even demanded that constitution be amended for granting reservation to Muslims.

The passionate speech was made by Akhilesh atop his Kranti Rath at Muslim-dominated Naugawa Saadat in Amroha (JP Nagar) district on Wednesday. Perhaps, realising that he is in a Muslim-dominated area, Akhilesh played the Muslim reservation card quite well with his speech laced with sops for the community.

“Mulsims have been given a raw deal by successive governments. Congress gave them just 4.5 percent reservation. It is ridiculous as Muslims are not going to gain much from this reservation gimmick,” said Akhilesh Yadav.

Advocating proportionate reservation to Muslims even if it is done through amendment in constitution, he said: “Amend the constitution but give Muslims their rightful due.” Akhilesh also vowed that his party will carry on the fight for the implementation of recommendations of Sachar Committee. “Congress only appoints commissions for Muslims. The findings and recommendations of the commissions are confined to dustbin,” he said.

The SP scion also claimed that during SP regime 15 percent jobs in police went to Muslims while in Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) regime, the percentage dipped to two percent.

During his campaigning via Kranti Rath, Akhilesh attended meetings at Dhanaura, Naugawa Saadat, Amroha and Hasanpur in JP Nagar district.
