A fatwa justifies protest against Rushdie’s visit

Lucknow: The Darul Uloom Farangi Mahal has issued fatwa justifying the protest by Muslims against the proposed visit of Salman Rushdie in India. The fatwa also urged the Muslims to take every possible step to oppose Rushdie's visit.

The fatwa has been issued by Nazim Darul Uloom Farangi Mahal Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli in response to a querry by one Ejaz Ahmed. The fatwa states that India is a secular country and every citizen has a right to raise his voice within the purview of law.

Justifying the protest, the fatwa states that Rushdie is detested by Muslims for his remarks and thus the protest is justified, so that Rushdie does not enter India where crores of Muslims are living.

Earlier, several Muslim organizations also voiced their concern over the visit of Salman Rushdie. Many of them in a veiled threat had stated that Congress may bear the brunt during assembly elections.

There should always be limits

There should always be limits to everything or be prepared to face the blunt of public. Can one carryon double standard for ever. For fun and short term motive Dr. Roshdi and Mdm. Tosrin, all VVVIP has a free run and poor Komal Hassan died in exile. One sows, and has to reap it. Pity.

Anti-Rushdie Fatwas

I wish our Maulana's stop issuing these ludicrous fatwas and deal with Rushdie and other dissenters through intelligent dialogue and debate.
