Protests over power cuts in Pakistan

Islamabad : Protests erupted in several Pakistani cities over prolonged and unannounced power cuts during Ramzan, a media report said Sunday.

People in Peshawar, Faisalabad and Jhelum took to the streets, Geo News reported.

In Peshawar, the protesters burnt tyres and suspended traffic. They pelted stones on private vehicles. A government office was burnt in Jhelum.

Police used batons to disperse protesters in Faisalabad when they tried to march towards a grid station. Five people were injured.

Pakistan’s electricity shortfall was 8,500 MW in May, according to the Dawn.
