“The idea is to finalize all of the technical arrangements so that the nutritional assistance can begin to move,” department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said at a news briefing Friday.

“My understanding is we’re down to issues like what port, when, who manages it, how do we count, how do we monitor,” she said.

The food aid is part of the agreement between the two nations unveiled Wednesday, in which North Korea agreed to suspend its nuclear tests, long-range missile launches and uranium enrichment activity at Nyongbyon, and allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to monitor the moratorium on uranium enrichment, reported Xinhua.

In return, Washington agreed to meet North Korean officials to finalize the details to move forward with proposed 240,000 tonnes of American nutritional assistance.

Nuland said that Robert King, US special envoy for North Korean human rights, will be in Beijing Wednesday for talks with Pyongyang.
