UP: Know your newly elected Muslim MLAs

19 graduates; 52 crorepatis; 37 have no criminal case

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has elected 68 Muslims as MLAs in the just concluded state assembly elections 2012. Three of them are women. Among the 68, there are 13 postgraduates and 19 graduates while 22 are just 12th pass or below. There are 52 crorepaties among them. While 37 have no criminal case two are facing 15 criminal cases.

Among the 68 Muslim MLAs in the newly elected UP assembly, there are 13 postgraduates, 19 graduates, 11 just 12th pass and as many are 10th pass. Among the three Muslim women MLAs, one is postgraduate and one is 10th pass.

Wealth
While 53% of newly elected Muslim MLAs of UP could not go beyond 12th Class, 76% of them are crorepatis (millionaires). Of 68 MLAs, there are 52 crorepatis. While the richest Muslim MLA has assets worth over Rs 56 crore the poorest MLA has assets worth Rs 2.9 lakh. The richest is postgraduate while the poorest MLA is just 8th pass.

Criminal cases
The majority of Muslim MLAs are clean at least officially on the basis of the information they provided to the Election Commission. Out of 68 Muslim MLAs, 37 have no pending criminal case while 11 have just one criminal case. While there are 15 Muslim MLAs who are facing 2-5 criminal cases there are two veterans who have 15 criminal cases pending against them. Both the two are crorepatis.

Muslim women MLAs
In the 2012 UP assembly elections, three Muslim women candidates have got elected, one more than the previous polls (2007). Among the three one is postgraduate. Two are crorepatis. The youngest is 41 and the oldest 50. Two of the three is facing one criminal case each.
