New Delhi: The brilliant teenager is certain about clearing counseling also but his father is uncertain about admission. Yazeed Bashamakh has cracked IIT-JEE – the gateway to admission at IITs in India. The results of the premier entrance test declared last week saw Yazeed getting All India Rank of 1437 among around 25,000 successful candidates.

While Yazeed, youngest among four siblings, is looking towards counseling, the next step to admission — around 19,000 students, just double the available seats (9500) in IITs, have been called for counseling, his father Abdullah Salam Bashamakh is worried lot these days. He is thinking about the high admission and semester fees of IITs. He has collected some information regarding fees. Talking to TCN from Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Bashamakh senior said admission fee is Rs 80,000 while 60,000 will have to be paid every six month for the four-year engineering course. “From where will I get these huge amounts?” asks he.
After matriculation, Yazeed cleared test for Rahmani-30 in 2010 and shifted to Patna. The free residential coaching institute run by Rahmani Foundation got him admitted in Class XI in the state capital of Bihar and started coaching him and 18 others for the IIT-JEE 2012. Seven of them cleared the entrance test – the top ranker among them is Yazeed. Not only this, Yazeed is at No. 17 among around 400 Muslim students to have cleared the IIT-JEE 2012 from across the country. Moreover, among the 16 before him there are 8 from OBC category. Yazeed belongs to General category.

Family
Abdullah Salam Bashamakh heads the family of six. Besides wife, he has three sons and one daughter. Eldest son Khaled Bashamakh is commerce graduate. Zaid Bashamakh could study till 10th Class. Daughter Humaira Bashamakh, who is at No. 3 among siblings, did B.A. and B.Ed. also. Last week Humaira was married.
Economy
The family of six has a small house — one room of 12/20, a kitchen and a bathroom. Earlier Abdullah would run a shop to TV repairing. Nowadays he visits homes when called to repair TV. Both Khalid and Zaid are the main earning hands for the family. They are unmarried. They together earn as much that they have meals three times. They are not able to save. Whatever they had saved in last 20 years, they spent on the marriage of Humaira Bashamakh on 20th May.
“I am worried if I will be able to get him admission in IIT. They have their rules. They won’t see our poverty and waive fees,” said Abdullah.
He asked me: “What can you do for me?” I have no answer, but one question: Will a community of 15 crore allow poverty to succeed and Yazeed fail?
