Vaiko meets Mamata, says UPA must go

Kolkata : MDMK general secretary Vaiko called on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Writers’ Buildings here Friday and backed her stand that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime had no moral right to continue.

“I fully endorse her view that the UPA government has no moral right to continue because of corruption and other things,” Vaiko told the media after meeting the Trinamool Congress chief.

He said he had met Banerjee to express his solidarity.

Stressing on the crucial role of the regional political parties in the next Lok Sabha polls, he said: “In future elections, the combination of regional parties will play a major role in shaping the government.”

Praising Banerjee, he said she championed the cause of the states.

The MDMK (Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) leader called for giving more powers to the states.

“To promote the spirit of democracy the States should be given more powers and the central government should not try to bulldoze them,” he said.

The MDMK has one Lok Sabha member from Tamil Nadu.
