Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the J.N. Medical College of AMU

Aligarh: Padma Shri Professor Mehdi Hasan, father of Anatomy in India and noted Cardiologist, Dr. Ashok Seth, Chairman of the Cardiovascular Sciences at the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in New Delhi were felicitated in the golden jubilee celebrations of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of the Aligarh Muslim University.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah presented a citation to both the distinguished alumni of the J. N. Medical College for their outstanding contribution in the field of medical sciences.
A large number of alumni from all over the world are attending the two day golden jubilee celebrations. Prof. Mehdi Hasan is a former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and former Principal of J. N. Medical College. Dr. Ashok Seth, another alumnus of J.N. Medical College has operated on the highest number of cases of angioplasty in the world.


P. K. Pradhan, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India was the chief guest. Addressing the function, Pradhan said that AMU has been engaged in building a block of our nation and has played important role in promoting secular ideals which has inspired this nation.

As an institute of higher learning, AMU is one of the leading universities in the Sub-continent offering more than 280 courses.

Dr. Sabahat Husain, IAS, an old boy, announced five awards of one lakh rupees each for the best papers in five areas by his organization.
Dr. Ashok Seth of Escorts thanked the University for the felicitation extended to him and offered voluntary services on a regular basis for providing cutting edge cardiac health procedures for the underprivileged segments of society from backward areas in the state which are being catered to by the J. N. Medical College.


AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier Syed Ahmad Ali called it a “red letter day” in the history of J.N. Medical College and paid his tribute to Prof. Hadi Hasan who had inaugurated the College on October 2, 1962.

In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor, Lt. General (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah highlighted the fact that since its inception, J. N. Medical College has made remarkable progress in terms of infrastructural facilities, faculty and students’ strength and also in terms of the academic and research output and services it provides to the weaker sections of society.
