Four dreaded Maoists nabbed

Raipur : Bijapur police Tuesday arrested four hardcore Maoist ultras involved in half-a-dozen cases of heinous crimes, police officials said.

Bijapur Police Superintendent Prashant Agrawal said: “Three Maoist guerrillas were apprehended from Nemed weekly market while they were on a recce. One ultra was nabbed from Bijapur bus stand Tuesday evening.”

According to police, the Maoists have been identified as Podiyami Paso, Kawasi Sukhram and Podiyami Budhram, all residents of Kachraram village under Toyanar police circle.

The Maoist arrested from Bijapur bus stand is Jebe Lachchu, sun of Lakshmaiyya of Rawapalli village under Madded thana, police said.

All four Maoists were involved in crimes like murder, attempt to murder, arson, bomb blasts and attacking police teams, and were wanted for a long time.

Bijapur, 500 km south of state capital Raipur and bordering Andhra Pradesh, has been worst hit by Maoist insurgency where 19 people, including adolescents, were killed by security forces on June 28. The incident evoked nationwide condemnation against paramilitary forces deployed in Bastar region.
