Shia-Sunni Muslim clerics against fundamentalism within community

By TCN Staff reporter,

Lucknow: For the first time, Shia and Sunni Muslim clerics have joined hands against fundamentalists within the community. A new organisation World Waeela Front has been formed by Maulana Kalbe Jawwad of Majlis-e-Ulema-e-Hind and Maulana Babar Ashraf of All India Ulama and Mashaikh Bord.

A two day function has been organised in Shahnajaf Imambara on October 17-18 by the newly formed World Waseela Front. The front is opposing the fundamentalism within the Muslim community.

Maulana Jawwad and Maulana Babar Ashraf stated that such elements are harming the peace of the country. They trained their guns on the ‘likes of Zakir Naik.’ The clerics demanded that Naik be banned from Azamgarh where he is expected to attend a function of Jamiat-ul-Falah.

The clerics also claimed that their community’s Shias and Sunni Sufi sect is poorly represented and should be given more representation in government by political parties.

The conference will be held in Shahnajaf Imambara. The first day will be reserved for the Shia clerics who will assemble under the banner of Majlis-e-Ulame-e-Hind from across the country. On the second day there will be a joint conference of both AIUMB and of Majlis-e-Ulame-e-Hind.

The event is expected to see participation of 600 Shia and 200 Sunni clerics from across the country.
