After Manipur blast, parents want sons to return from camp

By IANS,

Panaji : Parents of over 180 police constables undergoing training at a Border Security Force (BSF) battalion camp in Manipur want their sons to come back to Goa because they were “scared” of terror attacks in the northeastern states.

Petitioning Inspector General of Police Sanjay Singh in Panaji, Rama Parab, spokesperson for the over 100 parents who assembled at the police headquarters, said the training could be resumed after they recuperate and get “mentally fresh”.

“They had completed training in Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. Now they have been training in Manipur and since the attack on their camp, where three of our boys were injured, they are a bit scared,” Parab, who hails from Pernem told IANS Friday after meeting Singh.

Over 180 trainees enrolled with the Goa Armed Police (GAP) are presently at the BSF’s 116 battalion stationed in Manipur’s Thobol district.

Earlier this month, three of them were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near the training area. The batch of trainees had joined the BSF camp July 31 this year, for a six-month training programme.

“They should be brought back here to Goa for a break. Our boys need to be pacified a bit so that they can relax and then join back again,” Parab said.

A senior police official said that bringing the trainees back midway through their training was impossible.

“The training is scheduled as per a time table. We cannot disturb that. We have taken every measure to ensure that our boys who are being trained there are safe,” the official said.
