Republic Day celebration at AMU

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University celebrated Republic Day with ‘enthusiasm and dedication.’ The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. General Zameer Uddin Shah hoisted the national flag at the Victoria Gate and addressed the students and staff.

The Vice Chancellor also flagged off and led a unique cycle race “Pedal Green Cyclerathon”, organized for the first time in the history of the University. The event was sponsored by the Hero Cycles, which presented three cycles as prizes to the winners of Cycle Race. The Hero Cycles had arranged two hundred cycles for the rally.



A grand musical programme was also organized at the culmination point of the rally where the winners of the race were felicitated with prizes. AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah gave away cycle as a prize to Shashank Sharma while Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali gave another cycle to Amir Rizvi. The wives of Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor gave away freebies to several other participants of the rally. On this occasion, student members of General Education Centre presented patriotic songs.

The Pro Vice Chancellor and his wife distributed fruits to the patients admitted in the University Health Service. Earlier in the morning, the students of STS High School, City High School and ABK High School organized a Prabhat Pheri programme starting from the Minto Circle. Convener Prof. VK Prashar, City School Principal, Mr. Tanveer Nabi and PRO Dr. Rahat Abrar also addressed the students.



On January 27, a musical prize distribution function, “Salam Hindustan”, was organized at the Kennedy Hall where Pro-Vice Chancellor gave away prizes to winners of various literary and cultural event.

The Mountaineering and Hiking Club of University Games Committee organized a ten kilometer Half Marathon Race with an objective to promote communal harmony participated by the students of schools and colleges of Aligarh. The race was flagged off by the Registrar, Group captain Shahrukh Shamshad.



Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali, AMU Teachers’ Association President Prof. Abdul Qaiyyum, Women’s College Principal, Prof. B. N. Waris, Mrs. Pro-Vice Chancellor and Chairman, Department of Physical Health Education, Dr. Rajendra Singh were also present on this occasion.

The first prize winner of the Half Marathon Race, Kuldeep Singh, a student of ITI Aligarh was presented a cycle while other winners Mohammad Aurangzeb Khan (AMU), Azad (D. S. College), Mohd. Jahangir (Physically Challenged) and Mohd. Ali Haider were also felicitatd on this occasion. Among girls, Neelam of Wisdom Public School won the first prize, Mansi Sharma of Girls High School won the second. Durga Mishra of AMU, Somaiyya of St. Fidelis and Akanksha of Wisdom Public School were amongst others who were felicitated on this occasion.
