Kolkata: West Bengal Government celebrated 125th year birth anniversary of first educational Minister of India Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
The Chief Minister of West Bengal garlanded the portrait of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on his birth anniversary at the newly shifted temporary CMO `Nabanya’ in Howrah on 11th November, 2013. She said that Maulana Azad was a great educationalist of our country and we need to respect his contributions.

In another program West Bengal Board of Madrasa Education the birth anniversary at Muslim Institute Hall, Kolkata. West Bengal Board of Madrasa Education also declared Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Memorial Award and Begum Rokeya Award to the Principal of St. Xavier’s College Francis John Felixraj and Bengali Muslim Women educationist, Activist Begum Rokeya Award to Missionaries of Charity, Kolkata.
It also organized a lecture on the occasion. State Minister of Minority Affair and Madrasa Education Department Giasuddin Molla said that we need to emulate Maulana Azad’s model.

Molla said that Maulana Azad had taken the initiative to spread the education to every corner of village in our country and the State Government is now trying to establish ITI College each and every district of West Bengal.
State Minister of Disaster Management, Fire and Emergency Services Jawed Ahmed Khan said, “I am giving a proposal that, Madrasa Education Department can build educational Institution for the minorities on the unused land of Waqf Board of West Bengal.”

Present Secretary of Minority Affiars and Madrasa Education Department Shahidul Islam said that he will try to locate the unused Waqf land to start at least 24 ITI colleges.

MLA from Deganga and Member of Advisory Board of Madrasa Education in WB Dr. Md Nuruzzaman said, Begum Rokeya was a great educationalist and reformer of the women education in the Muslim society in 19th Century. Every women should follow her.
He reminded the audience that Maulana Azad had started his magazine Al-Hilal in 1913 and so 2013 should be celebrated as centenary year of Al-Hilal.

Vice Chancellor of Aliah University Dr Abu Taleb Khan, President of West Bengal Borad of Madrasa Education Fazle Rabbi, Director of Madrasa Education Arfan Ali Biswas, Chairman of Madrasa Service Commission, Madrasa Board member AKM Farhad, and Secretary of Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education department Shahidul Islam was also present in this program.
