Maldives seeks academic tie-ups with Jamia

New Delhi: The Minister of Islamic Affairs of the Republic of Maldives has sought assistance from Jamia Millia Islamia for the establishment of an Islamic University. A delegation led by Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Minister of Islamic Affairs of the Republic of Maldives visited Jamia Millia Islamia last evening to explore possibilities of academic collaborations and partnerships. It sought Jamia’s assistance in developing a culture of academic publication in Maldives.

Highlighting Maldives’ successful assimilation of western education into Islam, the visiting Minister underscored the need to promote Islam that was liberal, tolerant and integrated varied influences. He observed that Maldives was immensely successful in making women equal stakeholders in affairs of the country as was evident from the assumption of high offices by them in different walks of life.

Earlier, Prof. S.M. Sajid, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia welcomed the delegation and talked of the historical ties between India and Maldives. He assured the visiting delegation of all possible assistance from Jamia to facilitate academic collaborations in different sectors of education.
