However, public transport, shops, educational institutions and other businesses remained closed in summer capital Srinagar because of the shutdown called by hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani.

Geelani has called for shutdown against the detention of separatist leaders, including his own house arrest, by the authorities.

Contingents of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed in full riot gear at many places in the city to maintain law and order. No restrictions were imposed anywhere on pedestrian and transport movement.

Private transport plied normally at many places in the city and some three-wheelers also plied in uptown areas of Srinagar.
