Probe BJP’s Kurukshetra candidate for code violation: Jindal

New Delhi : Congress leader Naveen Jindal has asked the Election Commission to investigate poll code of conduct violation by the BJP’s Kurukshetra candidate and act against Zee Media management for airing “paid news”.

Jindal, incumbent member of parliament and the Congress candidate from Kurukshetra constituency in Haryana, met Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath Tuesday.

The Congress candidate requested Sampath that an early inquiry be initiated against Zee Media and its management as well as Rajkumar Saini, whom the BJP has fielded from Kurukshetra, for violating the Model Code of Conduct, a release from his office said Wednesday.

Jindal alleged the Zee Media management had issued a press release appealing to voters to exercise their vote in favour of the BJP.

“The collusion and conspiracy between Zee Media and the BJP candidate is more apparent from the fact that even after conclusion of the campaigning period April 8, Zee Media continued to air programmes against Jindal,” the release said.

“In view of the above, it is apparent that airing of the said campaign, being a paid campaign or paid news, deserves to be investigated by the commission,” it said.

The MP demanded the commission recommend cancelling of Zee Media’s licences to the ministry of information and broadcasting as well as Saini’s candidature.
