Ranchi : A PIL was filed in the Jharkhand High Court Monday, seeking a NIA probe into the forced conversion of a national gold medallist woman rifle shooter by a man who married her while posing as a Hindu.
“We have filed a PIL seeking a NIA (National Investigation Agency) probe into the entire episode. There are reports of involvement of some police officials, people related to judiciary,” said advocate Rajiv Kumar, who filed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
“Money transactions have also come in the case. The accused was allegedly in touch with some foreign people,” Rajiv Kumar said.
A shutdown in Ranchi Monday, called by the Shiv Sena and supported by the Vishva Hindu Parishad and the Bharatiya Janata Party, passed off peacefully barring a few minor incidents.
In her police complaint Aug 21, Tara Sahdeo said she got married in July this year to a person named Ranjit Kohli. She said the marriage was solemnised as per Hindu rituals.
However, during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, when people invited her husband for iftar, she came to know that her husband’s original name was Rakibul Hussain after she saw it written on the invitation cards.
She also alleged that Hussain and 20 other people forced her to change her religion. When she refused, she was allegedly beaten up and a dog was made to bite her.
Sahdeo alleged she was threatened with dire consequences if she told anyone about the conversion. She was kept under close watch but when Hussain went to New Delhi Aug 19, she sent a message to her family members and was rescued.
Police have sealed three houses where Hussain was staying on rent here and seized seven vehicles.
