Delhi BJP meets Gadkari over e-rickshaw ban

New Delhi : A delegation of Delhi BJP leaders Tuesday met union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari over the ban on e-rickshaws and urged him to ensure that the drivers are able to earn their livelihood.

Gadkari expressed confidence that the ban would be lifted soon, a party statement said.

The Delhi High Court banned plying of e-rickshaws in the national capital July 31 while citing safety reasons.

“We have appealed to him to solve the problem of livelihood of the e-rickshaw drivers and the inconvenience caused to the people of Delhi due to the court’s ban,” BJP’s Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay said.

According to the statement, Gadkari assured the delegation that the government will complete all the legal formalities and submit the required papers in the high court during the next hearing.

Arguing that the legal framework required for the plying of e-rickshaws was ready, Gadkari said he was confident the court will be satisfied with it and lift the ban.

After the meeting, Upadhyay interacted with a group of e-rickshaw drivers and asked them to follow the rules prescribed by the court once the ban is removed.
