Manipur Governor resigns

Imphal: The Governor of Manipur Vinod Kumar Duggal tendered his resignation on August 28, 2014. He is the 9th Governor appointed by the United Progressive Front Government to resign since the National Democratic Front assumed office in May 2014.

Speaking to media-persons in the national capital, he said he had submitted his resignation to the President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday evening. He also said that he has not been pressured by the present Government to step down. It is his own decision, he added. He said that he will be leaving Delhi on Friday to complete the formalities of vacating the post. He is in Delhi since the past one week.

Duggal holds the additional charge of Mizoram.

69 year old Duggal was appointed as Governor of Manipur in December 2103. He had served as Union Home Secretary from 2005 to 2007. He also handled several post-retirement assignments, the most important being as Member-Secretary of the Justice B.N. Srikrishna Panel on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to create a separate state of Telangana.

Earlier this week former Delhi Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Sheila Dikshit had resigned as the Kerala Governor on August 26.

The State Government is going to give the farewell function for the outgoing Governor on Friday evening at the Raj Bhavan.

Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya would arrive here on August 30 to take additional charge of Manipur Governor.
