BSF, Pakistan Rangers hold flag meeting

Jammu : A sector commander level flag meeting was held Friday between Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers on the international border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu district, officials said.

BSF sources told IANS here that Deputy Inspector General (Jammu range) B.S. Kasana and the Rangers’ Sialkot sector commander, Brig. Mateen, represented their countries in the meeting, which was one of the longest, lasting four hours from 4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., at Octroi border outpost in Suchetgarh area of R.S. Pura sector.

“The flag meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. Both sides put forth their viewpoints on the recent ceasefire violations on the international border.

“While our side said targeting of civilian areas by Pakistan Rangers was unacceptable, the Rangers spoke of the damage on their side,” a source told IANS.

This was the third flag meeting between India and Pakistan border forces following the recent ceasefire violations by Pakistan Rangers in the Jammu region.

During the last 45 days of ceasefire violations by Pakistan Rangers, two people have been killed and 17, including two BSF troopers, injured.
