Children in Pakistan villages not given polio drops

Islamabad : Hundreds of children below five years of age have not been given polio drops in villages in Pakistan’s Dadu district during successive drives by the health department.

The residents of villages in Karo Kot and Khirthar range Monday said no polio team had reached their areas to administer polio drops to children, Dawn news reported.

Essa Khan Rustamani, a villager, said about 50 children in his village had not been administered drops because no team had arrived there during the drive.

Villagers said no one had ever bothered to ask them to bring their children to any health centres. Officials of the health department, district administration and World Health Organisation local team were not paying attention to the remote areas of the country, they said.

The residents of Bodo mountain said there were at least 150 children who needed to be administered polio drops in the area.
