New Delhi : The urban development ministry has criticized the DDA over the huge shortage of houses in Delhi especially for the economically weaker sections (EWS), in an official report released Thursday.
In its third report on ‘functioning of DDA with reference to affordable houses in Delhi and its role in regularization of unauthorized colonies’ the ministry’s standing committee “expressed anguish over the shortage of houses and directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to take “appropriate action”.
“The committee has expressed their concern over the huge shortage of houses in Delhi particularly for the EWS. The DDA should make concerted efforts to finalize the land pooling policy and take appropriate action in this regard at the earliest,” the report said.
“The DDA should…complete the construction of entire EWS houses within a stipulated timeframe, it added.
The committee further said that the authority must root out corruption and work towards bringing transparency in its functioning.
“From the information furnished by the DDA, the committee can gather that amongst the 82 corruption cases against the DDA officials in the last ten years starting from 2003, 41 are under trial, 12 are under investigation, four have been acquitted while only 19 convictions have taken place.
“This information indicates towards a slow pace of trials and poor rate of conviction in corruption cases against DDA officials. This appears to be an eyewash.”
