Less and less SCs/STs candidates joining para-military forces: Centre

By A Mirsab, TwoCircles.net,

New Delhi: The actual recruitment of Schedule Castes (SC) and Schedule Tribes (ST) in the para-military forces is not keeping pace with the number of vacancies, as per the data released by the Union Home Ministry for years 2011, 2012 and 2013.

As per Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju’s written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, the number shows decline in recruitment of SCs/STs in the para-military department as total vacancies were not fulfilled in all three years.

“Non-availability of eligible candidates in the respective categories/Groups is the main reason associated by the government for the non-filling of reserved vacancies in SCs/STs categories,” the minister said.

The details of vacancies advertised for SC/ST categories as per the percentage fixed by Department of Personal & Training (DoP&T) and the number of SC/ST candidates recruited in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) & Assam Rifles during last three years shows that the maximum of SCs were recruited in 2012 when they fulfilled 65% of the vacancies allotted to them.

In the same year, STs reached maximum recruitment by fulfilling 68% of the vacancies allotted to this category in 2012.

Overall details for last three years are as follows:

The SCs fulfilled 31% in 2012 while it was 37% in 2013. STs did better as compared with SCs: their figure shows 68 % in 2012 and 97% in 2013.
