Probing manufacture of generic drugs without testing: Nadda

New Delhi : The government is investigating reports of generic versions of some medicines being manufactured without proper testing, Health Minister J.P. Nadda Friday told parliament.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Nadda said that the government was aware of the reports regarding manufacturing of generic versions of some drugs without proper testing.

“The Indian Council of Medical Research has taken up the matter with the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for action against such erring companies,” he said.

“Action as permissible under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the rules made there under will be taken by Drugs Controller General (India) after verification of facts,” he added.

The manufacture for sale of drugs is regulated through a system of inspection and licensing under the provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
