Pakistan to set up military courts for terror trials

Islamabad: Pakistan Defence Minister Khwaja Asif Friday said that military courts were being established for trials of terrorism related cases, media reported.

Asif said carrying out of death penalty against terrorists would begin soon, adding that the government had consciously decided to lift moratorium on capital punishment, Dawn online reported.

He said that the process of establishing military courts was already underway.

Asif added that there would be no discrimination in the carrying out executions of terrorists who have been sentenced to death.

The latest developments come after the attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School Dec 17 in which over 140 people, mostly children, were killed.

Soon after the attack, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted the moratorium on capital punishment.
