OIC voices support for Pakistan after school attack

Islamabad : The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Saturday, extended full support to Pakistan, following Tuesday’s terror attack on a Peshawar school that killed nearly 150 people.

In one of the worst acts of human savagery ever perpetrated, the Pakistani Taliban slaughtered 148 people, 132 of them children, in a brazen attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar in retaliation to the military operation against extremists in North Waziristan.

Secretary-General of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad bin Amin Madani, told Radio Pakistan following his visit to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Peshawar, that there was no place for barbarism in Islam.

“In Islam, there is no space for the barbarism that we witnessed in Peshawar. Pakistan is a leading country of the Muslim ummah (community) and the terrorists are out to weaken it,” he said.

Madani asked the ulema (Muslim religious scholars) to discourage terrorism and extremism in all their forms and manifestations, and stressed on the need for eliminating the social causes that lead to terrorism.

He expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and wished for the early recovery of the injured students and teachers. He appreciated the high morale of the students of the Army Public School.
