After receiving the award, Dr Hiren Gohain highlighted the importance of respecting each other in the society to build the greater harmony.

“Ismail Hussain was a nice person who always tried his best towards the uplift of the downtrodden. His writings reflected the struggle and life of the riverine people. We have also to appreciate his enormous effort to educate the people,” said Gohain.

Gohain also remembered Ismail Hussain’s left thinking and way of life.

CCSP has been trying to spread the message and literary works of Ismail Hussain by publishing and republishing his works time to time besides organizing programmes on his name.

Ismail Hussain was instrumental in bringing out a magazine called ‘Aazan’ in 1965 along with a few others which is regarded as the pioneer effort by the people of rive rine area in the field of literature.

He was born in a village called Borpalli near Barpeta town in 1947. Since childhood he grew up in an environment where he had the opportunity to study and later in his life he selected literature as the medium to voice for the downtrodden.

Besides, he was also actively involved in social activities.

CCSP has also taken resolution on the occasion to put pressure on the government to bring an end to the violence at the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) in Assam. They have asked the central government to adopt strict measures to seize all the illegal arms available in the area. The literary body also paid homage to the souls who lost their lives to militants’ bullets.

“We want all these non-sense to come to an end. This has already damaged the state a lot. These are reasons why the state is lagging far behind. We appeal to the government to adopt strict measures to seize all the illegal arms in BTAD which is one of the prime reasons for the violence,” Ahmed said.
