Vote audit of Afghan presidential runoff suspended

Kabul : The vote audit of Afghan presidential runoff was suspended Sunday.

“The process of auditing the votes cast in presidential runoff was suspended due to differences between the observers of Abdullah Abdullah’s team with Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai over votes in some ballot boxes,” Xinhua quoted election officials as saying.

Afghan presidential runoff was held on June 14 between Abdullah and Ghani Ahmadzai.

However, Abdullah has accused the Election Commission of committing fraud and demanded the votes be audited in the presence of international observers, including from the UN.

Auditing process of more than eight million votes which begun on July 17 would be completed within three to four weeks.
