Kolkata : The West Bengal Commission for Women Saturday said it will seek a report from the railway authorities after a woman employee filed a police complaint saying she was repeatedly gang-raped by four of her colleagues.
The women’s panel took suo motu cognizance of the complaint of the employee at the city’s Chitpur railway yard.
The woman narrated her ordeal to a TV channel and said four of her colleagues have been repeatedly raping her.
“They would constantly force themselves on me day in, day out. They clicked nude pictures and videos and threatened to publicise them if I approached police,” she said.
The woman, who Friday filed a complaint with the Government Railway Police (GRP), also claimed that even the police officers were reluctant to register her complaint and indulged in “loose talk” with her.
“The railways are entirely responsible for the ordeal which the woman had to go through for the last so many weeks. We have taken cognizance and are seeking a report from all top officials concerned including the divisional railway manager,” Commission chairperson Sunanda Mukherjee said.
The woman said her tormentors have been compelling her to divorce her husband and continued to sexually assault her even during pregnancy.
State Women and Child Welfare Minister Shashi Panja said her department has asked police to immediately take action in the matter, besides seeking a report from them.
“Besides asking the GRP to thoroughly investigate the case and apprehend the culprits, we have sought a detailed report about the whole incident and the alleged bad behaviour of the police officers,” Panja said.
