Will Modi led BJP continue to instill antagonism in supporters against their opponents?

By A. Mirsab, TwoCircles.net,

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has recorded a thumping win in the 16th Lok Sabha election and has crossed over the magic figure of 272 on its own. Narendra Modi is on the way of becoming 14th Prime Minister of India. Finally every political party and leader in the country has acknowledged that there was indeed Modi factor which has overthrown almost all parties except TMC and AIADMK in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu respectively.

The supporters of BJP are very much excited and celebrating their historic win not only in India but in foreign countries as well. But the questions which are emerging after the completion of election are – whether there will remain a feeling of hatred between supporters of Modi and those who have ideological differences with Modi? Will the anti-Modi people be viewed as anti-National by the people who voted for Narendra Modi? Will the BJP leaders continue attacks on Congress and other opposition parties even after the elections? The only answer to these questions is most possibly ‘YES’.

If we compare the level of ecstasy amongst the supporters of political parties in the country after the clean win of Congress under the leadership of late Rajiv Gandhi in 1984 and that of BJP under the leadership of Narendra Modi in 2014, we can see that supporters of BJP are over excited and are most likely to continue to hold rage against opposition political parties even after the elections where as there was no such situation of over enthusiasm nor of any feeling of hatred against opposition parties by the supporters of Congress led by Rajiv Gandhi even though Congress had won more than 100 seats than what BJP has won this time.

The reason behind continuance of feeling of hatred amongst the supporters of BJP after conclusion of election is that the elections this time around was campaigned in the fashion to anger people against anti BJP parties and the seed which has been bowed during campaign by BJP leaders and especially by Narendra Modi will persist in the mind of people for long unless BJP leaders after assuming their responsibilities in the government downplay the attacks against opposition parties and ask its supporters to maintain harmony amongst all citizens of the country irrespective of peoples’ support to opposition parties.

However, it is far from truth that BJP leaders will stop attacking their opposition parties but would rather amplify such attacks by referring to their triumphant victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections and the humiliation of their opponents. The main rationale behind amplification of their attacks would be to win assembly elections in the states where BJP is not currently in power.

It is evident from the statements of BJP leaders after their grand victory by which they were mocking their opponents and some were even hurting them by suggesting to resign. None of the BJP leader has publicly told its supporters to respect opponent supporters’ feelings and to maintain harmony amongst each other without considering to which political party they support.

Narendra Modi himself has not stopped attacking opposition parties, especially Congress, even after his historic success. While addressing his supporters in Vadodara after his win there by 5,70,000 votes, he thanked them and did not forget to mock Congress. Also, when he reached Varanasi for performing Ganga Arti he first thanked people, congratulated them and once again ridiculed Congress. It is apparent that when Narendra Modi himself has not seized attacking mood then how come other BJP leaders and its supporters will keep quiet.

One cannot figure out as to what BJP wants to achieve after winning Lok Sabha elections by allowing their supporters to fix big hoardings in squares of the city with titles such as “Lo Aagaya Sher “ (Behold! Lion has come), “Bolta nahi karta hai” (Not speak but act) and “Abse har bar sirf Modi Sarkar” (From now on only Modi government) which were seen in some cities of Maharashtra. The only output of allowing such hoardings is that BJP leadership wish that people continue to clutch rant and rave against anti-BJP parties which might sometime result into incidence of violence amongst two different communities.

There is no doubt that there are many supporters of BJP who hold same view as that of Giriraj Singh and Praveen Togadia who suppose anti-Modi people as anti-national and do not even stop at declaring to expel them to other country. Why none of the BJP leader has yet issued any statement to guide such supporters to maintain communal harmony, at least after coming to the power, so that the people who are not supporters of BJP may not feel insecure and live a life experiencing secondary citizen of this great country.

Now that BJP has won and the ball has fallen in their court the butt has stopped at their door to fulfill all of their promises pronounced during their election campaign and hence citizens of India would be looking at them for good governance than the political war of words and blame game while maintaining communal harmony at the same time.
