Truce announced in LDF

Thiruvananthapuram : Amid a vocal battle between the CPI-M and the CPI, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) announced a truce Monday.

CPI state secretary Paniyan Ravindran told the media earlier in the day that every party in the LDF had a right to express its opinion.

“Just because two parties have openly expressed their views, there is no need to worry about the unity of the LDF,” said Ravindran.

Communist Party of India-Marxist state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had Sunday gone hammer and tongs against the Communist Party of India.

After the LDF meeting Monday, its convenor Vaikom Viswan said all issues had been settled amicably.

He said the general consensus was that there should be no public debate if there were differences of opinion between parties in the LDF.

“Everyone agreed to it and all issues are now resolved,” said Viswan.

The main discussion at the LDF meet was how to proceed vis-a-vis the bribery allegations against Finance Minister K.M. Mani.

“We will now approach the Kerala High Court against revelations that bar owners in Kerala gave a bribe of Rs.1 crore to Mani,” said Viswan.

The LDF decided to stage state-wide protests Nov 25 to demand Mani’s resignation.
