Rs.4,502.34 crore supplementary budget presented for Odisha

Bhubaneswar : Amid an uproar by the opposition parties over a chit fund scam, Finance Minister Pradip Kumar Amat Thursday presented supplementary budget of Rs.4,502.34 crore for 2014-15 in the Odisha assembly.

The supplementary budget is an addition to the original budget provision of Rs.80,139.58 crore annual budget made for fiscal 2014-15.

The Odisha government has earmarked Rs.2,536.87 crore as non-plan expenditure and provided Rs.1,960.30 crore for the state plan.

The supplementary budget provides Rs.5.17 crore as the central sponsored plan. Besides, a corpus of Rs.300 crore has been made to return the money of the chit fund’s depositors.

“The government will return the money of chit fund depositors. The small and genuine depositors will get the money after the approval of the Patra commission investigating the chit fund irregularities,” Finance Secretary Upendra Nath Behera told reporters.

The supplementary budget has made an allocation for cyclone assistance, restoration and rehabilitation. Besides, special assistance has been made for the farmers, Amat said.

While Rs.250 crore has been allocated for special calamity assistance, Rs.54.59 crore was made for relief expenditure.

The state government has also allocated Rs.50 crore for development of Jharsuguda Airport and Rs.79.76 crore is to be allocated for Nirmal Bharat Yojana for construction of seven lakh individual household latrine in the state.

“The supplementary budget has made several provisions on agriculture, irrigation, infrastructure development, social security and education sectors that will help for development of people in Odisha,” said the minister.

The house was adjourned for the day as soon as the supplementary budget was presented as the opposition MLAs of the Congress and the BJP were shouting against the government over chit fund scam and alleged derogatory remark by the agriculture minister against a BJP MLA.
