CPI-M says can’t depend on Trinamool to fight BJP

Kolkata : The CPI-M Sunday said it cannot depend upon the Trinamool Congress to fight against the BJP despite West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashing out at the BJP for arresting Trinamool’s leader.

Taking a jibe at Banerjee’s comments Saturday that Trinamool’s Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose’s arrest was the price her party paid for her attempts to build a secular front, CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury said more Trinamool leaders would be jailed once the Saradha scam unfolds in its entirety.

“Two of their (Trinamool) Rajya Sabha members are already behind bars. This has never happened before in the country’s history that one after other, its Rajya Sabha members are going to jail,” Yechury told media persons here.

“But then this is only the beginning, when the entire story unfolds, many of their leaders will be found to be involved and will be behind bars,” he said.

Reacting to Banerjee’s comments that Bose was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation only because she went to Delhi to attend a conclave of secular parties, Yechury said: “Even we attended the event but none of our people has been arrested.”

Even as Banerjee and her Trinamool readies to organise a “mahamichil” (mega rally) Monday against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Yechury said Bengal’s ruling party cannot be relied upon in the fight against communalism.

“How did the BJP enter Bengal, who brought the communal forces into Bengal? It’s the Trinamool.”

“Now they are clamouring against the BJP, but two years down the line they will be eager to forge alliance with it. So, we do not have any faith that the Trinamool will be able to fight the communal forces,” added Yechury.
