“Particularly during the time of Indira Gandhi, when the party faced big challenges, he did not feel weak even for a moment. Whatever posts he held, whatever work he did, his contribution was very valuable and will be remembered for long,” the CWC said in a condolence resolution.

Deora was a permanent invitee.

The resolution noted that Deora rose from grassroots to become a union minister, and that “all his political life, he had unbreakable devotion to the party”.

Murli Deora died in Mumbai early Monday. He was 77.
