Two killed in Kabul blast

Kabul : At least two people were killed and three injured when a bomb blast rocked the fifth district of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul Tuesday, the country’s interior ministry said in a statement released here hours after the incident.

“Two innocent civilians lost their lives and three others, including a student and an employee of Kabul Municipality, sustained injuries as a roadside bomb struck a car in Kota-e-Sangi locality at 7.40 a.m. today,” the statement added.

However, it did not identify the third victim, saying an investigation has been initiated into the case, Xinhua reported.

Meanwhile, the Taliban outfit which has intensified activities over the past couple of months, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Zabihullah Mujahid, who claims to speak for the Taliban militants, talking to media over telephone from an unknown location claimed that an intelligence official, along with his bodyguard, was killed in the blast.

On the other hand, the personnel of the National Directorate for Security (NDS) or the country’s intelligence agency, have captured four militants in a former Taliban stronghold in southern Kandahar province, a statement of the Kandahar provincial government sent to media outlets Tuesday said.

All the arrested people are Afghans and have confessed to their involvement in terrorist activities and their affiliation to the Taliban outfit, according to the statement.
