A case was opened under section 147/149/341/336/333/353 including section 3 of damage to government property, 1984. The investigation lead by Officer Mr. Prafulla Borgohain took the lead and arrested Mr Rajesh Dash who is the president of Cachar District BJP Yuvamorcha. Mr. Borgahain informed that there are evidences against the BJP Yuvamorcha President and investigations and further interrogations of suspects belonging to VHP and Bajrang Dal hooligans are on. More arrests are to be followed. So far no fresh violence was reported and normalcy restored in Karimganj while curfews are on.

While Rajesh Dash was released later on bail the BJP Cachar District Committee and the VHP and Bajrang Dal Cachar district unit called for a day long strike in the area. While peace makers from all communities (Hindus, Muslims, Manipuris, Bishnupriyas and Dimasaa) in the area were trying to calm down the tensions the strike called by BJP and associated Hindu right wing groups are thought to make the law and order situation worst in the area.
